During my time as an equestrian I never had a lot of money to buy the latest and greatest tack, apparel, or equipment, so after all of these years I have some great tips for riding on a budget that I’d like to share!
Let’s start with where to shop!
Tack of the Day
Tack of the Day offers different items every day at crazy low prices! Join their mailing list so you never miss out on the products they’re offering. You can find anything from wraps and helmets to blankets, saddles, clippers and boots on there.
Closeouts & Season End Sales
Places like SmartPak and Dover Saddlery have really awesome deals a few times a year on items that are about to go out of season or are closeouts. I got my favorite pair of winter breeches from Dover for like 20 bucks at the end of the season! Sign up for their mailing lists and you’ll always know when they have a sale going on.
Online Consignment/Used Tack Shops
You can always find good deals on used tack! A lot of times, buying used is even better than buying new because the leather is already broken in, so it’s a win-win. Coming from someone who has never owned a brand new saddle, take it from me!
It is possible to find that dream saddle on your list without paying that new price tag. There are a lot of great online consignment shops that offer used tack in a variety of price ranges. I have listed a few online consignment shops for you to check out below.
– Bevel Saddlery’s used shop, All the Best Used Saddles
– eBay
Sterling Meadows Horsey Yard Sale
If you don’t know about Sterling Meadows‘ Horsey Yard Sale you are missing out! They hold a yard sale event for equestrians to come and sell their used tack and apparel. It is a great way to find good buys on used items you need. They have one coming up on October 1st, 2016 if you want to check it out!
Sterling Meadows Tent Sale
Another great time to stock up on horse gear is during the tent sale at Sterling Meadows. This is usually held once a year in May so follow them on Facebook so you don’t miss out on it. They offer a ton of discounts and special prices for their 2 day event!
I hope this was helpful! Keep an eye out for more posts coming soon with tips for equestrians on a budget!
