Gender Reveal with Dogs
I had always imagined a gender reveal surrounded by family and friends where everyone found out at the same time and it would definitely involve some kind of explosion of pink or blue. Since all of our family and friends are across the country, I decided to do a variation of a gender reveal on my own with the help of the dogs, Dozer and Axel. Did I mention Justin is also thousands of miles away on deployment? So it’s just me, Dozer, Axel and baby Crane holding down the fort for a while. When I started thinking how I could do a reveal for Justin that would be fun, I knew I had to somehow do the gender reveal with the dogs.
I set out on a google search for dog-friendly cakes and went from there. Having the dogs eat a pink or blue filled cake would be fun to film and photograph to share with Justin and family and friends. I ended up with a Pumpkin Peanut Butter cake and made a mixture of yogurt and peanut butter for the icing and colored filling (I shared the recipe at the end of the post). I cooked the cake in the Pampered Chef Classic Batter Bowl and it ended up being the perfect shape to scoop out the middle for the colored filling.
The Setup
For the setup, I used a white sheet strung across our garage and decorated with Walmart’s best pink and blue decor (which was disappointingly not much…so I got stuck with buttons and streamers). The Hood River Walmart has to be the smallest Walmart ever! Since I was doing this all by myself, I had one camera on a tripod for video and one on me for pictures. Scroll down to see how it turned out and to find out if we are having a BOY or GIRL!!

Don’t judge my icing skills…
See the video below or keep scrolling for photos!
They started out by licking all of the icing from the outside before they dug into the colored center…it took longer than I expected for the color to show!
Axel is like, “Mom, are we really allowed to eat this?” Dozer obviously didn’t waste any time diving in like the fat boy he is!
I see blue…
IT’S A BOY!!
We couldn’t be happier to be having a little boy and are so excited to meet him at the end of September (or early October)! Dozer and Axel will be great big brothers.

Does it need to be refrigerated because of the yogurt frosting?
Yes I would keep it in the fridge.
